Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do these hikes on my own?

Yes, you can do these hikes on your own for free. By choosing Seward Guided Hikes, you’re able to get a deeper insight into the nature and history of the trails and Seward with a life-long local. Your guide has a lifetime of adventure in the Alaska wilderness, with knowledge and experience in all aspects of safety from handling bears and moose to weather changes. Your guide is Wilderness First Aid and CPR certified. Bear spray, a first aid kit, and extra water will all be carried by your guide.

I don’t see a time or day that works for me, is it still possible to go on a trip?

Yes! Contact us and we will do our best to accommodate for your itinerary. Call us at 907-362-7723 or email sewardguidedhikes@gmail.com.

What if it rains?

Trips will be performed pouring rain or shine. Only if the trail is in dangerous condition will the trip be rescheduled or cancelled. Even if the weather is nice, it is always a good idea to bring rain gear such as a rain coat, waterproof hiking shoes, extra socks and a hat. After all, Seward is a temperate rainforest.

Will I see wildlife?

As wildlife is unpredictable, animal sightings are never guaranteed. That being said, there may be opportunities to safely see moose, bears and eagles. Additionally, on the Tonsina hike, there may be chances to see sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals and if you’re really lucky, orcas and humpback whales.

Is there food?

Your guide will bring snacks to help get you through your hike!
