Tonsina Beach Trail

Take a walk through the mossy forest to emerge out onto Tonsina Beach with a stunning view of Resurrection Bay and the many surrounding mountains. Not extremely strenuous, but note that much of the hike is uphill with some steeper downhill sections. Learn about some of the important historical figures of Resurrection Bay, the area’s role in World War II, and an understanding of the beautiful animals and plants that inhabit the trail system.

Seward is a temperate rainforest. As you walk through a deep, luscious forest, your guide will identify plants along the way.

At the end of the hike, you will reach Tonsina Beach. Now is your chance to keep an eye out for wildlife like whales, sea otters, eagles and jumping fish.

Peer into tranquil streams and watch as salmon swim under a bridge.

Mount Marathon Bowl

Climb up the steep but rewarding Mount Marathon Jeep Trail to emerge into a bowl immersed in lush greenery and steep peaks. While challenging, you will earn an outstanding view of Seward and Resurrection Bay. Along the hike, learn the history of the famous Mount Marathon Race (one of the oldest races in the U.S.!), the history of the town of Seward and information on the animals and plants you may spot along the way.

Note that while this is the same mountain, it is a different trail than the Fourth of July Mount Marathon Race trail.

Amidst green trees and vibrant landscapes, spot various wildflowers growing in the midnight sun.

After hiking through blooming terrain and streams moving with fresh mountain water, you will reach the beautiful Mount Marathon Bowl.

Gain new heights and breathtaking views of Seward and Resurrection Bay.
